EMDR Therapy at Betterview Counseling

Healing Trauma, Restoring Balance, and Reclaiming Your Life

At Betterview Counseling, we are proud to have five highly trained EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapists ready to guide you through one of the most effective, evidence-based therapies for trauma and emotional distress.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is a proven therapy that helps people recover from distressing life experiences, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, grief, and phobias. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation—often eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones—to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they lose their emotional charge.

In simpler terms: EMDR helps you heal from the inside out—not just manage symptoms.

The Benefits of EMDR Therapy

  • Fast and Lasting Results – Many clients see improvement in fewer sessions compared to traditional therapy approaches.

  • Reduces Emotional Distress – Helps diminish intense feelings tied to painful memories.

  • Restores Confidence & Self-Worth – By reprocessing events, you can let go of negative beliefs about yourself.

  • Improves Daily Functioning – Less anxiety, fewer triggers, better sleep, and improved relationships.

  • Works Beyond Trauma – Effective for anxiety, depression, chronic pain, performance anxiety, and more.

What to Expect During an EMDR Session

Your therapist will guide you through eight structured phases of EMDR:

  1. History Taking & Treatment Planning – We learn your story, goals, and needs.

  2. Preparation – You’ll learn grounding and relaxation techniques to feel safe and supported.

  3. Assessment – We identify the specific memory or belief causing distress.

  4. Desensitization – Using bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds), your brain begins to reprocess the memory.

  5. Installation – We replace distressing beliefs with positive, empowering ones.

  6. Body Scan – You’ll notice physical sensations and clear any lingering tension.

  7. Closure – We ensure you leave the session feeling safe and grounded.

  8. Re-Evaluation – In your next session, we review your progress and continue the work as needed.

You’ll remain in control throughout the process—EMDR is collaborative, not invasive, and you never have to share more detail than you’re comfortable with.

Evidence & Success Rates

  • The American Psychiatric Association, World Health Organization, and Department of Veterans Affairs all recognize EMDR as a top-tier treatment for trauma.

  • Studies show that 77–90% of single-trauma survivors no longer meet PTSD criteria after just 3–6 EMDR sessions.

  • EMDR is equally effective in both in-person and telehealth formats.

  • Research confirms EMDR can be more rapid than traditional talk therapy for certain types of trauma.

Sometimes life feels heavy, and we can all find ourselves stuck in patterns of pain, self-doubt, or disconnection. If so, you’re not alone -- and your feelings make sense. Healing old wounds and navigating life's transitions can be difficult, but it’s not impossible. You are starting exactly where you need to, and together, we can move toward healing. As a therapist, I believe deeply in creating a compassionate space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. I believe in a forward-thinking approach to therapy, helping you move from feeling "stuck" to embracing growth and change. I integrate practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Somatic Experiencing, mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to support deep emotional healing, especially through inner child work. My goal is to help you tap into your own wisdom and strength — because healing isn't about fixing what's "wrong," but about reconnecting with who you truly are.
