So, what is art therapy?
The fancy definition of art therapy is a mental health profession that combines applied psychology with active art-making and the creative process to improve and enhance individuals' physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Since I’ve been working as an art therapist, I can also say that art therapy has helped a wide range of clients reduce stress levels and offer mindfulness techniques. It also allows individuals to explore difficult feelings, resolve conflicts, develop interpersonal skills, achieve personal insight, manage behaviors, and increase self-esteem and self-awareness.
The art in art therapy sessions is not about being “perfect.” Sometimes, it’s messy, chaotic, and unplanned, just as our own lives can be. I believe it is a great privilege to be welcomed into someone else’s private inner world through their art and to see their artwork come alive when discussing it, instilling each work with a deep sense of authenticity and emotional resonance.
But what if I want to talk?
In my approach to therapy, I meet my clients where they are, with a person-centered approach, ensuring they feel safe and supported during our sessions. This may include different approaches to therapy, including talk therapy. I have experience working withadults, adolescents, and children and I’ve worked with individuals struggling withanxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, eating disorders, addiction, and trauma.
In our sessions, you decide what’s important, and I am here to help you navigate and work through those crucial aspects of your life. Whether you are sorting through past trauma, struggling with anxiety and depression, or something else, you are not alone.
You can schedule sessions with me online or via email beginning September 30th, 2024.
